Jupiter 11.7.2011 - Mlynska dolina

I was pretty surprised that I created photography of Jupiter and his 4 moons with my small handy camera Cannon IXUX 100IS. Only ocular projection (40x zoom) with my lo-cost SkyWatcher 80/400 EQ1 telescope and camera hold only by hand.

Last start of Atlantis space shuttle

The space agency's managers met at Kennedy Space Center on Tuesday and confirmed the date as the last launch for space shuttle Atlantis.
Atlantis will fly to the International Space Station with a year's worth of supplies.  NASA said this will be enough supplies to keep the station running if private U.S. companies fall behind in their effort to launch their own cargo ships.
"This flight is incredibly important to space station," NASA's chief of space operations, Bill Gerstenmaier, told reporters. "The cargo that is coming up on this flight is really mandatory."

Einsten's gravitaction waves theory is proved!

NASA's Gravity Probe B (GP-B) mission has confirmed two key predictions derived from Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity, which the spacecraft was designed to test.
"The mission results will have a long-term impact on the work of theoretical physicists," said Bill Danchi, senior astrophysicist and program scientist at NASA Headquarters in Washington. "Every future challenge to Einstein's theories of general relativity will have to seek more precise measurements than the remarkable work GP-B accomplished."
If you think, what is this good for?, Why we spend lot of money for  proving one theory?. The bread won't be cheaper! But knowledge from this project will be used in n GPS technologies that allow airplanes to land unaided.
For technicians,  Gravity Probe B is not about actually seeing confirmation of one of relativity's less-publicized effects. Instead, it's that these extreme test, measurement, and instrumentation problems that fascinate me. Broadly speaking, they are challenges for one or both of these reasons: the level of precision and accuracy is extreme, and/or the circumstances under which the system must operate is extreme (temperate, vibration, interference of various types, or sheer remoteness).

The Sun: A software developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) makes available online to everyone, everywhere at anytime, the entire library of images from the SOHO solar and heliospheric observatory. JHelioviewer is new visualization software that enables everyone to explore the Sun. Developed as part of the ESA/NASA Helioviewer Project, it provides a desktop program that enables users to call up more than a million images of the Sun from the past 15 years
